Galaxy S8 was the biggest launch for Samsung after the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco late last year. The phone brought a lot to the table and became an instant hit wherever it is available for purchase. But the joy couldn’t last for long as it turns out that the phone has a widespread problem of restarting randomly.
Soon after the problem was discovered by the users, the forums got filled with threads with people raising their concern over the issue in their new flagship. Some of the users claim that their Galaxy S8 restarts a few times in one day, while one of the users said that the phone restarted seven times during the first 10 hours of usage itself.
This particular user started a thread on the Samsung U.S. community forum to report his issue. Besides the official Samsung forum, the affected users are also reporting the Samsung Galaxy S8 random reboot problem on the official S8 sub-Reddit and XDA Developers forum.
The users report that the random restart happens on the Galaxy S8 while using an app such as Samsung themes or the camera and it doesn’t depend on if the phone is charging. The users said that their phone would freeze, the display would shut down, and after a few seconds, the phone will restart. Samsung Galaxy S8+ users are left either, they are also facing the exact same issue.
The Reason and The Fix
Since Samsung is yet to acknowledge the issue so it still isn’t officially known what exactly is causing random restarts in the Galaxy S8. The users are meanwhile speculating the various possible reasons for the issue.
One of the users on XDA Developers forum said that the problem is happening because of restoring the Samsung Galaxy S8 from an old phone. According to him, the version conflict caused by the apps from third-party developers is the reason for random restarts. Some others said the Always-On display to be the culprit, but nothing is confirmed yet.
Most of the solutions suggested by the users revolve around the microSD cards. If you too are facing a similar issue on your Galaxy S8, then you can try using the phone without the microSD card inserted. It is definitely a temporary fix that severely limits the phone’s usage but you might have to try your luck until Samsung pushes a firmware update with the fix.
In fact, some users who were experiencing random reboots on their Galaxy S8 phone have said on Reddit that a software update pushed by T-Mobile has seemingly solved the issue. This might not be entirely true as it is too early for Samsung and the carriers to send out a fix. But we can hope for the company to acknowledge and fix the problem soon.
