Space Exploration Technologies Corporation – better known as SpaceX – is an American aerospace manufacturer and space transport services company headquartered in California, United States. Elon Musk, the CEO of SpaceX, is now the role model for many budding entrepreneurs. Musk once very candidly said – “As much as possible, avoid hiring MBAs. MBA programs don’t teach people how to create companies.” That coming from a man who heads SpaceX and Tesla – two very successful companies is something to think about.
The SpaceX program suffered a major setback after the Falcon 9 rocket exploded just moments after its launch. Elon Musk is someone who believes in putting failures behind, learning the lessons and moving on with the next big thing. In line with his philosophy, Elon Musk said in an interview with CNBC that SpaceX has learned a valuable lesson and that the investigating team had discovered the problem that suddenly triggered the explosion. “I think we’ve gotten to the bottom of the problem,” Musk said. “It was a really surprising problem. It’s never been encountered before in the history of rocketry.” According to Musk, the explosion was likely the outcome of interactions among liquid helium bottles, carbon composites, and solidification of liquid oxygen propellant in stage-2 of the flight. The root cause, according to Musk, is so complicated that even SpaceX Engineers and Scientists are having a hard time debugging it.
The explosion cost SpaceX dearly – it not only destroyed the rocket but also the $200 million worth Israeli Amos-6 commercial payload. But this hasn’t deterred Elon Musk from pursuing the ambitious plans he has for SpaceX. Musk said that the Falcon 9 launches will resume from mid-December.
