WhatsApp recently brought a new status that was much more interactive than the previous one and was inspired by Instagram Stories, which were again inspired by Snapchat. Many users wanted to the older and simpler status back and the company seems to have heard them.
The latest beta version of the app brings the feature back along with a few other features. Apparently, WhatsApp isn’t removing the new status update feature and both the old and new status updates are expected to coexist in the final builds. The old status can be accessed from the Profile section in the app but will now be known as ‘About’ in beta version 2.17.97.
Besides the status feature, the app also comes with a few changes to the interface as well. the chat window layout has been changed a few icons have been moved to makes their use much faster and easier.
First is the new video call icon using which you can make a video call directly while there is a voice call icon next to it. Earlier, there was just a call icon and upon clicking it, a small menu appeared where you could select video call or voice call. Now you can do this in just one step in the WhatsApp Messenger 2.17.97 beta update.
The icon for attaching file has also been moved to the typing window where it is placed besides the camera icon. Talking about the typing window, it has also been updated and it now has rounded edges to look more appealing.
For now, you must know that the no-nonsense text status update is back to the beta version 2.17.97 and will soon be made available for the final builds. If you are registered as a beta user then you can download the WhatsApp version 2.17.97 beta from the Google Play Store itself, if not, then you can download the APK file from here.
