Upcoming AMD Vega lineup of graphics cards has yet more rumors. Some confirming older ones that there will indeed be a Vega 11 variant. Indeed, the latest rumors peg Vega 10, Vega 11 and possibly other cards filling the upcoming Radeon lineup from top to bottom. Essentially completely replacing Polaris. How this fits in when there are reports of the Polaris 10 xt2 and Polaris 12 graphics cards remains to be seen.
More AMD Vega rumors
The more we hear rumors about the Vega the more we think there must be more than one GPU in the lineup. Partially because it doesn’t appear that the desktop version is the one Scorpio GPU is based. All rumours point to the Vega being around 12.5TF compute power. So it’s looking less likely that this is the GPU the Scorpio is based on. So there could be a cut down 1070 variant of the card as well. Which is what MS’s console will be getting a custom version of. Unless MS are using old tech seen inside the R9 290.
All custom designs AMD have done for console makers have seen a PC variant since the 360 days. And unless the GPU is getting a major clock speed reduction, there is another GPU in the Vega line-up. Lower end Vega cards will be the Polaris refresh coming late 2017 we’d bet. From what AMD have said thus far it seems like they will be sticking with Vega for a couple/few years until Navi is ready. Hopefully, it will offer 4k 60fps at a sane price. $700 is way too much for Nvidia’s garbage last gen 1080 Pascal card. It’s high time DX11 was ditched and we moved on to better APIs that can use the parallel nature of GPUs properly.
