Xbox One Update: Microsoft Adds A Number of Long-Awaited Features

It is the time for the Xbox One players to rejoice as Microsoft is pushing a new update to the console bringing a bunch of new features. The announcement for the update was made on Twitter by Mike Ybarra, the Corporate Vice President of Xbox and Windows gaming platform on March 29th.

The update was made available for download immediately and here are all the exciting features that will be making their way to your Xbox One with this update.

Redesigned Home Screen

The very first thing that you will notice is the updated home screen that now sports a new look. The game icons will now be a bit smaller and you will be able to keep track of your Clubs, Groups, and Achievements in a better way. The console will also auto-select a background image from the most recently played game, in case you haven’t selected one. The whole idea of this redesigning is to simplify the user experience and make the system performance better.

Screen Time Limits

Giving parents more control over the time their children spend using Xbox, the new update brings the option to do so. With this update, you will be able to set the screen time for your children so that they don’t spend too much time playing video games.

Copilot Mode

Microsoft added an interesting feature called copilot mode that allows two controllers to act as one. The feature will help in cooperative controls for people playing in groups and is configurable easily. It was previewed in January this year and it finally made to the final build with this new update.

Improved Guide

The Guide can now be accessed with a click of the Xbox button on the controller and will appear as an overlay on the left side of the screen. It will now come with several new features like the Xbox Live Gold subscribers will get to check the deals and offers for the month. This will eliminate the need to search the storefront.

Besides this, the guide will also link to the Games and Apps section. It will also grant access to the GameDVR and integrate the background music player. “No matter what you’re doing, the new Guide experience puts the features and functionality that you use the most right at your fingertips,” notes Microsoft.

Beam Streaming & Multitasking

Improving the way you connect with other gamers online, Microsoft has now introduced Beam Streaming. The update allows one to directly stream their Xbox gameplay from the Guide on their Xbox One. Until now, the Xbox One users were using Twitch from Amazon to connect with other players.

The users will now be able to select and follow more than one achievement while playing, thanks to the added multitasking capabilities with the update. Cortana will also appear on the screen as an overlay and will help the users set reminders and alarms.
